The Co-operative Education Program

Delta Elevator has been a part of the Kitchener-Waterloo community for over 50 years. One of the great advantages of this location is the presence of three well respected post-secondary institutions: University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Conestoga College. We are proud to support them by participating in their Co-operative Education programs and hiring their graduates.

Delta Elevator has been a Co-op employer since 2003, when we began hiring students from the University of Waterloo Engineering program. Today, our Mechanical Engineering department is led by a University of Waterloo Engineering Alumni and we have other Co-op program Alumni working in the department. Delta Elevator also participates in the Conestoga College Co-op program by hiring students from various disciplines: Information Systems, Electronics, and Supply Chain Management.

In our experience, hiring Co-op students has three key benefits for the employer: First, it is a way to supplement staffing resources for special projects, such as our Additive Manufacturing initiative. Second, it is a way to bring new perspectives to existing technical challenges, since Co-op students often bring new ideas from previous job placements. Third, it is a way to evaluate candidates for future full-time employment, particularly as companies grow.

For Co-op students, the short term employment opportunities gives them exposure to a number of different organizations during their schooling, which enable them to make much more thoughtful decisions about future career choices. Also, earning money while learning is an added benefit which helps many students pay for their education.

All in all, the Co-operation Education approach, with its mix of education and work experiences, is one of the best things about our local post-secondary institutions. If you are an employer, we strongly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity!
